Last month, Nick and I took a drive to Enfield, CT to attend the 90th Annual Italian Festival presented by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The Festival began with a procession at dusk on Thursday, followed by feasting and entertainment on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
We went specifically to check out the food selection, which included classic Italian-American fare such as baked ziti, zeppole, and sausage, pepper, and onion grinders cooked up by parishioners (we opted for ziti and watermelon Italian ice). Carnival rides, games, and live music (including Dean Martin’s daughter, Deana – a festival favorite) provided entertainment. When we arrived around 6:30, folks were already lined up in lawn chairs awaiting the night’s performers. Though the food wasn’t spectacular, the sense of community was palpable and for $2 (free for children under 12) it’s a fun, affordable family outing. Check out the photos below.
